What Does Memorial Day Mean to You?

This Memorial Day weekend is an unusually cool one is what is normally Sunny San Diego.  But that is not going to keep us from enjoying the unofficial start of summer.

Over 33 million people will be hitting the road this weekend (According to AAA Travel) and many of them will make their way to our town.

As I mentioned in the post from last year (see below), San Diego is a big military town.  I don’t know if visitors notice it or if the SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo and beach experiences distract them too much to notice.

I wondered what a tourist in San Diego would answer if I asked What does memorial day mean to you?

I will tell you what Memorial Day means to me.

It means thanking all those men and women who dedicate their careers to that we remain free to enjoy our lives. They spend months away from their loved ones, sometimes in a state of constant danger.  They miss births, birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.  All things that most of us get to enjoy.

It means thanking those who have literally sacrificed their bodies and lives to protect our country.

It means thanking the families of our military members for supporting them, which I know first hand, isn’t always easy.

It means thanking my lucky stars that I get to live in the greatest country in the world.

So tell me, what does Memorial Day mean to you?
